Kennedy Academy Celebrates Boston Educator of the Year Ilsa Bruer!
Congratulations are in order for Ilsa Bruer, Kennedy Academy English teacher, who was selected today as 2010 Boston Educator of the Year. Ms. Bruer was nominated by students and colleagues at the school for the energy and creativity that she brings to her work, and for the high standards she holds for all of her students. Ms. Bruer holds a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Education from Northeastern University. She joined the Academy full time in 2006, after completing her student teaching at the school.
As part of her nomination, the words of her students speak powerfully of her influence in their lives:"Ms. Bruer always pushes me to go beyond. When I struggle, she meets with me and helps me to succeed and be happy with the work that I do. She is someone who you can trust to be there to help you." - Gabriela Depina, Grade 10
"Ms. Bruer is a phenomenal woman, who has impacted my life greatly. In the classroom, she is very creative and open minded with everything she teaches. She shows up before school, during lunch and after school to help students with anything and everything. More than a wonderful teacher, Ms. Bruer has become an inspiration and role model to me. I appreciate all she has done for me throughout my four years of high school. Through good times and bad, Ms. Bruer has stood by my side and supported me through it all." - Shannan Wilson, Grade 12
"Her excitement to teach fills the room and her presence excites me to learn. When Ms. Bruer notices our flaws or sees that we are stuck on a topic, she reviews it numerous times. Ms. Bruer gives the right amount of work so that students can work to their full capacity. She has the willingness to adapt changes in her teachings and her creativity is shown by the way she teaches." - Ambar McField, Grade 11
Kennedy Academy is proud to recognize Ilsa Bruer for this well deserved honor!
